The ultimate goal for this program is to train medical students to become competent sonologists who can instinctively pilot an ultrasound device, bringing them closer to their patient and their patient's illness.
This goal will be accomplished by removing the operator dependency that is inherent in ultrasound. While it is the only imaging that does not involve radiation or a giant magnet, thereby enhancing its portability, for some it can be difficult to learn.
Overcoming the barriers inherent in ultrasound skill acquisition is at the heart of our ultrasound program. We are working toward this with written and practical pre- and post- testing. Through this iterative process we will define the ultimate curriculum.
